The Black Friday readout

Read the weekend from the store's own orders: volume, new against returning, discount cost, and how much of the credit was already in motion.

The question

“Black Friday is over. What did it do for us, and how would we know?”

The assignment

Pull orders for the window and the same window last year. Count them, split new from returning buyers and discounted from full price, and put the store's revenue next to what email and ads each claim. Write one dated paragraph on what you would change.

At the apparel brand in the article, a 30% sitewide code sat on 95% of orders, cost 29.1% of list value, and orders still fell 29.5% against the year before. Read backwards from the email report it was a success; read forwards from the store it was a smaller weekend that paid for itself. Four splits, your orders.

Numbers in the readout that are not yours come from the article. Fields marked optional sharpen the answer but are not needed for it.
