The signup map
Map every form on your site to the list it joins and the flows it fires, and find the signups that land in two welcomes or none.
The question
“Someone signs up on my site. What arrives, from which flows, and could two of them fire on one person?”
The assignment
Sign up to your own site with a new address, from every form you have, and write down what arrives in the first week, from which flow, and when. Then open each welcome flow's trigger and filters and check what keeps a person out of the others.
At the kidney-health brand in the article, both welcome email flows started on the master list of 143,520 profiles, and the SMS welcome fired on any list join: of the last 100 joins, 88 were the master list and 8 were back-in-stock lists. At the yarn brand, one signup page joined no list at all. The same map, for your site.
Numbers in the readout that are not yours come from the article. Fields marked optional sharpen the answer but are not needed for it.
Popup, footer, restock, checkout, quiz, landing pages.
Should equal the number of signup places.
What your numbers say
Still needed: Signup places on your site; Welcome email flows that are live; Does any welcome flow trigger on your main or master list?; Does every welcome exclude people who have already bought?; Signup places you signed up to yourself.
